The Update option should always be selected if an existing Grafis is to be updated. All existing settings for paths, window positions, recently opened files, export/import settings, plotter setup etc. are carried over or a query appears before overwriting files. The software itself is completely updated.

With the variant New/Complete with data transfer, Grafis is installed completely and new in a new folder, but completely takes over the data and settings of an existing installation. The old installation will not be changed, see the following picture. The transfer can take several minutes depending on the amount and size of the existing files.

The variant New/Complete without data transfer installs Grafis completely and resets all settings and options which may exist in the target to the delivery state. Style data, shapes, modules, your own individual measurement tables or basic constructions are not lost in the process. Plotter and export/ import settings, path settings and window positions however, will be reset. Only select this variant if the new Grafis version is installed in addition to the existing version or if the existing installation no longer works or is no longer needed.

In the next dialogue, the installation type will be selected. From GRAFIS 23.0 onwards, the Windows folder for programme files can be selected as the destination ("Programme folder"). Important GRAFIS programme files are installed in the C:\Programmes folder. Application data such as styles, measurement charts, modules or shapes are located in the "Shared Files" folder. User data is stored in the local user folder. The "Classic Mode" known from earlier GRAFIS versions with an installation on the folder C:\GRAFIS is only recommended for a few applications:

• When using GRAFIS directly on a removable storage device that is to be connected to different computers.

• when updating existing old installations

The next step is to select the destination of the installation. For the installation type "Programme folder", you can select the name of the installation folder. This name is also used for the data in the "Shared files" areas for styles and measurement systems, as well as in the personal user folder for settings and temporary files. The name "Grafis" is suggested by default. If several installations are to be set up in parallel, any additions to the name can also be specified (e.g. Grafis-1). If different programme versions are to be installed, the addition of the version number is also possible: "GrafisV23", up to the specification of further subdirectories "Grafis\V23".

With the installation type "Classic" GRAFIS is always installed in the folder "GRAFIS", only the target drive can be selected.

This option controls the automatic installation of the dongle drivers during the installation process. It is automatically activated by the installation tool during new installations or when updating older GRAFIS versions. When updating within the same version, the option is deactivated.

For an installation in the variant New/Completewith and without data transfer with installation type "Classic", a further dialogue can be opened via the button Installation in the network.

This dialogue permits moving six different folders or folder groups to other drives for shared use in the network. The folder or folder groups are:

• Measurement systems
• Shapes
• Basic blocks
• Texts and text modules
• Plotter settings
• Symbols and export settings

If only style files are to be exchanged, it is not necessary to move these folders to the network. It is sufficient to assign a common network drive for the Grafis users, activated in the Grafis Setup on the Drives and Paths file card. This drive should ideally be linked with the same drive letter on all Grafis user workstations. This variation is recommended if a number of independent users, such as service providers or students, wish to exchange styles or if styles are to be provided for classes.

If measurement charts, shapes and basic constructions are to be shared as well as the style data, these entries must be moved to a shared network drive. The drive letter for the network drive should be the same on all Grafis workstations. During installation on the first workstation, all data must be copied. For further workstations the option Do not copy data. They already exist can be activated. This variation is recommended for companies with a number of workstations, in particular if data backup is carried out via this central drive.

If other information (text modules, plotter settings, symbols, export settings) are to be shared as well, the corresponding folders can also be activated.

It is not absolutely necessary for all these folders to be stored on the same network drive. Theoretically, each of these data groups may use its own drive. However, to ensure clarity, the data should only be spread over different drives in exceptional circumstances.

Over and above the already mentioned folders, other types of data can be migrated to network drives. For special configuration options right up to establishing a 'diskless workstation', please contact the Grafis Support.

In the installation type "Programme folder" this dialogue is much simpler. Here you can move shared data to other destination folders. Here you can move shared data to other destination folders. These can be e.g. network drives or cloud storage, but also network storage with UNC paths. Basically, all data that are intended by GRAFIS for the common use of several users are relocated: Styles, measurement tables, modules, shapes, text modules

After having started the installation, all data is copied to the corresponding target folders. In the Update variant, specific queries are made as to whether certain files are to be overwritten. If applicable, at the end of the copy process, a list of files is displayed showing files which could not be copied as they were write-protected in the target drive or currently in use.

In the variation New/Complete with data transfer and New/Complete without data transfer, the setup program starts automatically after copying is completed. Here, fundamental settings for screen, available drives or system language can already be undertaken.

If the option Install Dongle Driver was activated, the driver installation " Sentinel Runtime" by Thales will start.

is now included in the current Grafis 23.0. The INSTALL.EXE can be controlled via command line parameters. The parameters are:

/silent - Silent mode activated, no queries unless it is really necessary (because a choice has to be made)

• default for complete/update is update
• default for modern/classic is modern

/classic - installed in classic mode

/modern - installed in Modern mode (program folder)

/complete - installed as new/complete installation

/takeover - installed as new/complete installation with data transfer

/update installed as update installation

/noshowlog deactivates the display of the error log at the end

/t:<name> - specifies the installation target, e.g.. /t:C: (= Classic on C:\GRAFIS) or /t:Grafis 23.0 modern on C:\Program files\Grafis 23.0. If there is a space in the path during modern installation, the entire parameter including /t must be set to "", /t in "" gesetzt werden, siehe Beispiel.

/o:<name> - specifies the source for the takeover in /takeover (Origin) e.g. /o:C: (takeover from C:\GRAFIS , also classic ) or /t:Grafis 23.0 (takeover from C:\Program files\Grafis 23.0)

1. Example: Grafis is to be installed as an update to the program folder with the installation there in C:\Progamme\Grafis 23. Misplaced folders should be taken into account:

Install.exe /silent /modern /update "/t:Grafis 23"

2. Example: Grafis is to be installed on C:\GRAFIS for the first time.

Install.exe /silent /classic /complete /t:C:

Important: Install.exe requires admin rights and will ask for them at startup if the application was started without them.

Incidentally, the order of the parameters does not matter.
